When it comes to moving online environmental safety training forward, these five states are setting a positive example.
WE are on a mission to bring online safety training and recertification to every state in the U.S. However, we often run up against state regulatory bodies who are resistant to updating their in-person training requirements. Yes, change is hard. But we’ve also known – even before the pandemic hit – that online access to training is the future. The next generation of environmental safety workers and teachers now expect and demand it.
We accept the challenge of gaining approval for online training courses, state by state. We are breaking down barriers and facilitating online access to a wider pool of trainees with every new approval we gain. That’s a win worth celebrating! Here are the top five states that have reviewed and approved online re-accreditation training classes at an admirable rate. Other states should follow suit.
Utah
Our next-door neighbor to the west, Utah, has been receptive to our training classes in all formats. In fact, we occasionally travel to Salt Lake City to run in-person initial training classes. Our most recent win with Utah’s Department of Environmental Quality has been gaining their approval of our Asbestos Project Designer Refresher course to be offered asynchronously online.

Michigan
In the Wolverine State, industry regulators have granted approval to our online refresher courses in six different asbestos categories, from Asbestos Abatement Worker to Asbestos Management Planner. This allows certified professionals across the discipline to renew their licenses from the convenience of their own homes. Demand is strong. Michigan is one of our bestselling markets for online refresher courses.

Online and anytime! Did you know, we also administer the Missouri state exam online in both English and Spanish?

Advocating for More Online Access
If your state is not on this list, or doesn’t offer online courses on our state-by-state map, that means we all have some work to do before online class formats are available. Your voice matters! You can help by getting in touch with your state’s regulators and requesting online refresher courses be valid. Meanwhile, we’ll be working hard to keep moving the future into the present day.
