Danaya Wilson Wins 2021 “Top Performer” Award from the American Subcontractors Association of Colorado

Welcome the Newest Addition to the “Women of Construction” Ranks

CHC Training co-founder and CEO Danaya Wilson is gaining recognition for her leadership and innovation in Colorado’s construction sector. In June of 2021, her win was announced at the American Subcontractors Association of Colorado (ASAC) Awards in the Park Event in Clement Park in Littleton, CO, where she emerged as the winner among three nominees for the prestigious “Top Performer” Award in the “Women in Construction” category.

The ASAC Tradition and Annual Awards

The ASAC is Colorado’s chapter of the American Subcontractors Association. The association was founded in 1966 as “the voice of Colorado subcontractors”, providing advocacy, education, and networking. It brings together professional constructors, suppliers, and service providers such as CHC Training who are working to bring positive change in the construction industry.

For 35 years, ASAC has presented annual awards in 20 construction industry categories, such as “Project Manager of the Year” for both subcontractors and general contractors, “Subcontractor of the Year” in five different firm size tiers, “Supplier Member Award”, and “General Contractor of the Year” for three different firm size tiers.

Women of Construction: Recognizing Excellence

Additionally, ASAC recognizes “Women of Construction” with three different categories: “Up and Coming”, “Legacy”, and “Top Performer.” The association uses the following criteria: prior awards and recognition, individual integrity and character, leadership, innovation, and creativity to nominate finalists and select a winner in each category.

In 2021, alongside Danaya Wilson as a nominee for top performer were Ashley Butts of Powell Restoration, Inc., Laura Hoff of JHL Constructors, Courtney Judish of Hensel Phelps, and Stacey Richardson of 360 Engineering.

Through this award, Wilson will join the ranks of ASAC’s Women in Construction, a group on a mission to “empower and inspire women of construction in the advancement of their professional careers through opportunities for network development, education, and support from their colleagues.”

“Women are underrepresented as top innovators in the world of construction professionals,” observes Wilson. “It’s a huge win to be recognized as a leader in a male-dominated field. I look forward to the day in the future when ‘women in construction’ isn’t a special distinction anymore because we’ll have gained equal representation and footing. These awards are a step in the right direction for all the amazing finalists and winners, past and present, and for the construction world as a whole.”

Debra L. Scifo, Executive Director of ASAC, is excited to welcome Wilson into this year’s cohort of Women in Construction. “Danaya is an individual of integrity and character who is a leader at her company and in the industry,” says Schifo. “Danaya is innovative and creative and leads by example and her commitment. Her leadership at CHC Training has revolutionized the environmental training industry by developing curriculum and a delivery model that is more student-focused.”
