This 5-day course focuses on air sampling analysis for fibers by phase contrast microscopy using the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) method 7400. It is designed as an equivalent in structure and objectives to the NIOSH equivalent course number 582e (Sampling and Evaluating Airborne Asbestos Dust). It is intended to fulfill the mandatory analyst training requirements (OSHA) asbestos regulations for Construction and General Industries (29 CFR 1926.1101 and 1910.1001). College level algebra and physics are helpful. Classes in Colorado may be taught in conjunction with the Air Monitoring Specialist Initial course.
*Student must bring the following to last day of class:
At the end of the course, a written exam measures the student’s level of technical understanding. Those who successfully complete the written exam (passing grade of 70% or better) and attend all class hours, will be eligible to receive a NIOSH 582e certificate.
Even though The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) discontinued its offering of the NIOSH 582 course for Sampling and Evaluating Airborne Asbestos Dust, this equivalency course has been formatted according to those standards and training satisfies OSHA regulations applicable to PCM analysts using the NIOSH 7400 Method.
